Katie Gilbert started her career in family law over 10 years ago, and her professional and personal experiences have taught her the importance of ending a marriage with as much dignity as possible. Prior to joining Rech Law, she practiced with a family law firm in Charlotte.
Attorney Gilbert is a native Charlottean and a graduate of Charlotte School of Law, where she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. During law school, she worked in a family advocacy clinic, where she had the opportunity to represent parents whose children were in Department of Social Services’ custody. She also interned with the Mecklenburg County Family Court Administrator’s Office, the Honorable Louis A. Trosch, Jr., and in the Legal Department for Matthews-based Family Dollar, Inc., as well as volunteered with the Mecklenburg County Self-Serve Center. In 2019 Attorney Gilbert became a Board Certified Family Law Specialist, earning a status that only 3.9% of her colleagues have achieved.
Prior to attending law school, she was a legal assistant to a family law practitioner for almost seven years. Attorney Gilbert also volunteered for the Mecklenburg County Guardian ad litem program for over two years. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Queens University of Charlotte, where she majored in American Political Science and was named Political Science Student of the Year. While at Queens, she was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jon, and their Labrador retriever mix, Sawyer. She also volunteers with the Yancey County Humane Society and the Humane Society of Charlotte. She enjoys local politics and working on political campaigns.
Attorney Gilbert is passionate about her clients and believes in a holistic approach to family law. She recognizes that, for most clients, this is one of the most difficult and stressful times they will ever go through. She strives to get to know clients on a personal level so that she fully understands their situation. She is practical with her advice and hopes to help clients make decisions that make the most sense for their specific situation.
